ABOUT CBD FOR DOGS
CBD is short for cannabidiol, a naturally occurring compound found in the hemp derivative of the cannabis plant. These plant-based compounds, and others like it (including THC), are called cannabinoids. Unlike THC, CBD does not have psychoactive properties that make your pet feel high.
Humans and pets have an endocannabinoid system (ECS), a regulatory system which plays an important role in managing stress, limiting free radical damage, and supporting the immune system.
When CBD and other cannabinoids enter the body, they interact with the endocannabinoid system by binding to receptors and creating a sophisticated chemical interaction. CBD indirectly interacts with CBD1 and CBD2 cannabinoid receptors throughout the body to produce homeostasis (a state of balance and optimization for you and your pet’s good health).
What is the Difference between Hemp and Marijuana?
This is one of the most commonly asked questions among new CBD users. The cannabis plant comes in two forms: hemp and marijuana. The marijuana plant has high concentrations of THC and low concentrations of CBD. On the other hand, the hemp plant has low concentrations of THC and high concentrations of CBD. THC is a psychoactive compound that creates the feeling of being “high”.
CBD, on the other hand, is non-psychoactive and is associated with having calming effects on the body and minds of both pets and pet parents.

What Is the Difference Between Hemp Oil and Hemp Seed Oil?
When choosing a CBD product for your pet, it is important that the product: (1) is a hemp extract and (2) contains CBD. Do not be fooled by hemp oils that are only extracted from the seeds of the hemp plant. Hemp seed oil does not contain CBD and will not have the beneficial effects of hemp oil containing CBD.
How is CBD Oil Extracted?
We use a process called CO2 extraction to extract CBD and other phytochemicals from the hemp plant. This results in pure CBD oil that involves zero post-processing (no chemical solvents or processes). This oil, commonly known as full-spectrum CBD oil, retains all of the natural cannabinoids (CBD-V, CBD, CBG, etc.) as well as the other natural terpenes found in the hemp plant (see ‘Is all CBD Oil the Same? below).
Is All CBD Oil the Same?
CBD is typically infused in coconut oil for easy consumption by humans and dogs.

The cannabis plant contains over one hundred organic cannabinoids, including CBD, CBG and CBN. The cannabis plant also contains other compounds called terpenes and terpenoids. When the cannabinoids and terpenes mentioned above are consumed together, a phenomenon known as the ‘entourage effect’ produces more potent results in your pet’s body. The entourage effect proposes that the synergistic relationship between all of the cannabis plant’s compounds results in a person or an animal to take maximum advantage of the benefits of CBD. Simply put, full-spectrum CBD oil is a testament to the old saying: “the sum is greater than its parts.”
In contrast, CBD oil isolate and broad-spectrum CBD oil products do not contain all of the cannabis plants’ cannabinoids and terpenes. As a result, these products do not take advantage of the ‘entourage effect’ and thus, are less effective than full-spectrum CBD oil products.
When deciding which CBD oil is right for your dog, choosing full-spectrum CBD oil will achieve the complete essence of the hemp plant, and thus, the most powerful results.
What Are the Benefits of CBD for Dogs?
